Painting Supplies Checklist

Everything you need for a problem-free DFW paint job so you can Get ready to roll!

Tape Measure

Measure walls first so you’ll know how much paint to buy. As a general guide, 1 gallon of paint covers approximately 400 square feet. See page on estimating interior paint

It’s a good idea to use a primer with a stain blocker.

Stir Stick

Stir sticks usually come free with any paint purchase. Make sure you ask at the paint supply store and always stir paint before applying.

Pour Spout

Attach the spout to a gallon of paint and pour without any mess or purchase paint containers with built-in spouts.

Five-gallon Paint Bucket

Use 5 gallon paint buckets for bigger jobs that require multiple gallons of paint. This helps to keep the color consistent for your entire project.

Place the screen inside the bucket to wipe any excess paint off the roller.

Roller Tray

Use a metal or sturdy plastic tray to ensure no spills.

Tray Liner

Save clean-up time and mess by using a disposable paint-tray liner.

Roller cover

Use a 3/8-inch nap to provide the best finish for most interior walls.

Angled Brush

To paint trim, use a two-inch angled brush. This will give you more control and precision in tight corners.

Blue Painter’s Tape

Painters tape is an essential for protecting trim or walls that you don’t want to get paint on.

Drop Cloths

Protect furniture with plastic coverings with a reusable canvas or disposable plastic drop cloth. Be aware that canvas is less slippery and safer than plastic when using on the floor.

Hole Filler

Hole filler is quicker and easier than spackling. Just dab hole filler into small holes in the drywall.

You will need a screwdriver to loosen any ceiling plates of lighting fixtures and remove switch plates before painting. An electric saves lots of time and effort.

Before priming, wash the walls with a few drops of dishwashing detergent mixed with water to remove dirt and other particles that may compromise the final finish.
